Bits of May

Hi guys!

I hope you had a great weekend! I spent a longer weekend in Finland and it was great! I was checking my images from may and seems like I haven't been starving at least. Prepare yourself once again for my food images.

I baked this cute hippo-decorated cake for Ben. He's a fan of Nutella (oh yes you are, Ben!). So this is a Nutella cheesecake. Very sweet, extremely naughty but easy to make. The recipe is here.

Accuse me of starting to sound like the Finnish version of Martha Stewart but I've been dreaming of a veggie spiralizer FOREVER. You can cut veggies with it very fast, but the best part: you can make zucchini pasta with it! Noooo, using a grater IS NOT the same thing! This is all about fooling your brain into thinking you're eating a big pile of carb-a-licious pasta! I bought mine from Amazon. (here)

Please tell me the name of these flowers! I love them, they last so long!

The Book that I finished last month is a memoir of Grace Coddington. I enjoyed this book a lot! It was exciting to read about her eventful life and great a career as a creative director of Vogue.

We went to try pole dancing with some of my colleagues and had a nice dinner at Kimchi Princess afterwards. The class was great and food delicious! Awesome night! Even the long bike ride home after the dinner felt like riding an unicorn on the clouds. Or something.

Ben is the master of Risottos! This delicious dinner was waiting for me on a Friday night. I could have easily swallowed my tongue with it, that's how much I liked it :D

Then came Fanny's and mine cooking/baking night :D. We started by working out to prepare ourselves for the food (over)load. Then cooked/baked about 4 hours and finished off by watching a movie. I baked a raw blueberry cheesecake (an awesome healthy summer treat) and sweet potato brownies (that was too far from the original in my opinion. Fanny liked, but I think I could've made her happy by just offering her a spoonful of sugar ;)). Fanny prepared delicious Chinese food. Hmm, I don't know the names but everything was good xD.

Ever since Taija bought a gorgeous handbag (let's call her Céline), I realized I badly needed my own Céline as well, only I fell for Kate Spade instead.. As it happens, Riikka has a charming gentleman Michael Kors at home who had never even seen a sunlight! A bag date was needed. The bags needed a nice accessorize by their side and therefore we did our best to meet the standards. The location was a lovely rooftop lounge at Hotel de Rome.

Enough is enough. I'll leave the pics of my trip to Finland for the next post :).

Top restaurants in Berlin

Let's share some food-love!
Here are my favorite restaurants in Berlin. Please help me to grow the "to go" -list if you know any good restaurants here :).

My birthday dinner at Transit

  • White trash: "Berlin’s best steaks plus German-Asian-Mexican-French-Swiss-Army Fusion, with guitar". Reminds me a bit of Hard Rock Cafe...only better
  • The Bird: One of the best hamburger places in Berlin. They also use very good, fresh ingredients. For many this is a MUST when visiting Berlin. Reserve!
  • Schwarzwaldstuben: German food. Especially food from Bavaria. Try Maultaschen mit Kartoffelsalat (my favourite!)
  • Mustafa's Gemüse Kebab: The best döner, but be prepared to line up for half an hour or so. It’s totally worth it though, I’ve done it four times, no regrets!
  • Transit: Asian “tapas”. Nice with a bigger group...order the table full and share ;)
  • DUDU: Asian fusion, try their fish bowl or crunchy dudu...or both. Reserve!
  • A Magica: The best pizza I’ve eaten. Real italian!
  • Monsieur Vuong: Vietnamese, try their awesome cocktails too! Go early as they don't take reservations
  • Wok Show – prepare your tummy for this –great dumplings in big portions! “real Chinese homemade food” as my Swedish-chinese friend put it ;)
  • Zuckerfree – Lovely brunch place, You order from the list. Also great lunch + cakes!
  • Le Midi – Another lovely brunch place from Corsica right next to Zuckerfree. You order from a list...great cakes here as well!
  • Omoni: Korean-Japanese, for sushi lovers as well as non-sushi lovers, eh? Reserve!

On my “to go” list

Nothing beats good food with good company

Hi guys!

My computer hasn't been working for a while but now it's ok again (as long as I don't shut it down...) so here's an update what's been happening. Based on the pics it seems that my life has been very much about food lately. You cannot blame me, I do have an excellent kitchen for cooking.

Siri and I had a little movie night for which we prepared chicken wings, cucumbers & carrots with tzatziki and sweet potato chips. The making of sweet potato chips is a form of art itself. If you try them out, make sure not to do the following mistakes we did:
- Do not put anything else in the oven than the chips
- Do not pile them on the tray. They shouldn't touch each other
- Do not use baking paper. Its too "greasy"
- Do not think you can make them without checking out a recipe first ;D

After fixing all our errors they turned out to be good though ;)

I tried the same zucchini-garlic-parmesan cheese topping for the sweet potatoes as I did a while back for pasta. I wrote about it here. I also made guacamole...twice. And ate it with every meal from breakfast to my evening snack... For my guacamole I use:
- 2 avocados
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 chili
- 1 tomato
- the juice of 1/2 lemon
- some fresh coriander and basil
- few drops of Tabasco (for me more cause I've gained spiciness resistance lately...)

And GOSH it's good!

Taija, Sanna and me also organised "chocolate-making get-together". We wanted to try to make healthy raw chocolate. It was super easy!

Here's how we did it:
- Melt 2 dl of coconut oil on a plate over a boiling water (just see what Sanna and Taija are doing in the pic below :D)
- Add 2 dl of 100% cocoa powder. Let it melt as well.
- Add 3 tablespoons of agave syrup and 1 spoon of honey to sweeten. (This is up to you... do as sweet or non-sweet as you want!)
- Mix and pour on a tray, add nuts or dried fruits and pop it in the freezer for half an hour
- YummYummMumsMumsOmmommmOmmmmmm

....We did some salad as well!!

My 10k challenge is going goooood! I can see some results already. I'm down to 6000 swings, 4000 more to go! Tomorrow we have our housewarming party. I try to take pics, but let's be honest here; i'll probably forget :P.

Have a great weekend!

Advent calendar: Christmas town

Hi guys!

Sorry for not posting for a looong time! Long story short: Ben messed up with our WiFi and it took ages to get it back! So I've been living offline life for almost too weeks now. It's been pretty refreshing! The only downside was that I couldn't blog, but I did lot's of other stuff like crafting, writing (other than blog), reading, cleaning, cooking, doing sports, and best of all; I went to bed super early every evening!

Here's a little sneak peek of what I mean with crafting... It has become more like a tradition that every year I make someone an advent calendar for Christmas. This year I made it of course for my lovely niece, Isla! She's only 1,5 years old so I made this little town and I put little toys, notes, stickers and chocolate inside the houses. There is also a story included. It's about little Isla-sticker who has lost some of her stuff, her pets and her good friend Marjaana-sticker, hahah...So she needs to find them before Christmas... ;)

I got the idea for the calendar from Paperikaupan tyttö. The templates for the houses I printed from Mr Printables.
